Both the Nexus 5 and the iPhone 5S carry forward the design aesthetics of their manufacturers, citing a similar look and feel to their predecessors. Google has upped the game on the Nexus 5though, giving it a minimalist, classy look with barely there bezels and keeping its fascia free of buttons. Its edge-to-edge toughened glass and ceramic buttons lend it a premium quality while its thin Gorilla Glass 3 coating makes it durable and sturdy without adding any bulk.

The iPhone 5S's form is just like that of the iPhone 5 in a number of ways but its new colour variants make for a refreshing change. Its glass and metal body gives it a premium, well built feel while its slim side bezels make it seem ultra sleek. Those who like smaller handsets will specially appreciate the size of the iPhone 5S, for it is easier to slip into a pocket or small bag than its competitor.

On the downside, the Nexus 5 is a magnet for fingerprints and the iPhone 5S can be quite slippery in the hand. Overall though, both handsets are well designed in their own rights and appeal with their aesthetics. The iPhone 5S has an edge in this round with its slim, premium built, winning this round.

The Nexus 5 sports a 4.95-inch True HD IPS Plus capacitive touchscreen that packs in a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 445ppi. Imagery on the handset is bright, sharp and richly detailed.

The iPhone 5S carries Apple's pride and joy, a 4-inch Retina Display LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. It packs in a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels and a pixel density of 326ppi. The handset makes for clear, well defined imagery and its oleophobic coating protects it against fingerprints, besides adding toughness to its form.

Google scores big with its higher resolution and pixel density but Apple's Retina Display wins brownie points for its clarity and depth.
